Abstract

Due to its natural course, where it is incurable in the later stage, early diagnosis and early treatment is crucial in the management of lymphedema. Bioimpedance analysis (BIA) is a noninvasive technique that measures extracellular volume by passing electrical current through the body and measuring the responsive impedance to that current. Both multiple frequency BIA and single frequency BIA are used, which can detect even little difference in the extracellular volume, enabling the diagnosis of lymphedema in the earliest stage and monitor the effect of lymphedema treatments. Thus, BIA is a sensitive and reliable method of diagnosing and monitoring lymphedema.
